Privacy policy

Last updated: 5 November 2026

This policy explains what CapMux stores about you when you use a CapMux account, why, for how long, and who helps us. The short version: your videos never leave your computer, and an account holds little more than your email address, your computers and your licence.

Who we are

CapMux (https://capmux.app) makes the CapMux desktop app and runs this website. CapMux is operated by Stefan Šilić (individual), Novi Sad, Serbia, the controller of your personal data under this policy. For anything about your data, write to support@capmux.app.

What we store for an account

An account is optional: a licence key entered in the app works without one. For each account we store:

  • Your email address — to sign you in (we email you a 6-digit code instead of using a password) and to tell you about your licence.
  • Your computers (at most 3 at a time): the machine ID the CapMux app derives from the computer, the device name and platform (Mac or Windows), the app version, when it signed in and when it was last seen. For a key made for an older CapMux version: the computer ID you entered and the device name you gave.
  • Your licence: purchases (the Creem order or subscription reference, product, plan, start and end dates, status), activation codes you redeemed and when, licences given to you by CapMux, licence keys you linked to the account from the app (the key's ID and its computer ID; the key itself stays as it is), and the licence keys issued to you (the key, its computer ID and expiry).
  • Sign-in data: sign-in codes until they are used or expire, and the sign-ins of your computers and of the account page (of the app's sign-in token, the server keeps only a digest).
  • A security log: time, event (for example a sign-in, a failed sign-in, a device removed, a code redeemed), IP address, country, the browser's or app's user-agent string and the account's internal ID — never your email address. It helps us spot and stop abuse.

What we do not collect

  • Your work stays on your computer. Videos, audio, captions, transcripts and file names never leave it: speech recognition, editing and export run locally.
  • The app's anonymous usage statistics are never linked to your account. They are daily counts without any identifier (see the "Usage statistics" section of the licence agreement), and you can switch them off in the app.
  • No tracking cookies. The website counts page views anonymously (no IP address, no identifier, no cookie). The account page (capmux.app/account) sets one cookie, only when you sign in there: it keeps you signed in on that browser until you sign out, and each visit renews it (your browser drops it 400 days after your last visit). Sign out everywhere ends it in every browser. It is not used for anything else.
  • We don't sell your data, use it for advertising or share it with anyone except the providers below.

Why we use it

To provide what you bought: check your licence, let you use it on your computers, send sign-in codes, and answer your questions. The security log protects your account and our service from abuse. We send no marketing emails.

Who helps us (processors)

  • Creem is the Merchant of Record: it sells you the licence and handles payment, invoices, taxes and refunds. Your card or other payment details go to Creem; we never see them. Creem tells us about a purchase (your email address, the product, the order or subscription reference and its status) so we can add it to your account. Creem's own privacy policy covers what it stores.
  • Resend sends the sign-in emails: it receives your email address and the email (with the code).
  • Cloudflare hosts the website, the account service and its database. Like any web host, it handles your IP address to deliver the pages.

These providers may process data outside your country, under their own data protection terms.

How long we keep it

  • Account data: until you delete the account.
  • Computers you removed, that signed out or that were replaced by another: 90 days, then they are deleted.
  • Sign-in codes: 10 minutes at most; a code can be used once. Wrong codes are counted per email address for 24 hours: after 10, signing in with that address is blocked until the 24 hours are over.
  • Sign-ins of the app and of the account page: until you sign out (in the app, or Sign out / Sign out everywhere on the account page), the computer is removed or replaced, or you delete the account. They never expire by time; the account page keeps the 20 most recently used sign-ins of an account.
  • Security log: 12 months, then deleted.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account yourself, in the CapMux app or at capmux.app/account: both times we email you a code to confirm. You can also ask at support@capmux.app.

Deletion removes your account and email address, your computers, your sign-ins, your licence and purchases, and pending sign-in codes. Every computer signed in to the account loses its licence. A few records stay, without your email address or anything that names you:

  • the licence keys issued to you stay in our licence register with the name replaced by "deleted account" and the key text removed; the key ID is kept (and the key revoked) so that the key stops working;
  • activation codes you redeemed stay marked as used, no longer linked to you;
  • a digest of each computer's sign-in token stays, so the app can be told that the account was deleted;
  • security log entries keep the account's internal ID until they are deleted after 12 months.

Creem keeps its records of your purchases (invoices, payments, taxes) as the law requires.

Your rights

You can ask us what we store about you (you see most of it at capmux.app/account), have it corrected (for example your email address), have it deleted, or object to how we use it. Write to support@capmux.app; we answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we update this page and the date at the top. If a change matters for how we use your data, we tell you by email or in the app before it applies.
