CapMux — End-User Licence Agreement and Source Code Notice
Copyright © 2026 CapMux. All rights reserved.
Template. This text was drafted as a starting point and has not been reviewed by a lawyer. The owner should have it checked by a lawyer qualified in Serbian law (and, where CapMux is sold to consumers abroad, in their law) before relying on it.
In plain language: CapMux belongs to its owner, the CapMux developer. Buying a licence gives you a key that lets
CapMux export on one computer (a Mac or a Windows PC) for the period you paid for — one or more
months, or lifetime. Without a key the app runs but cannot export, and there is no trial. Everything
you make with CapMux — your captions, subtitle files and videos — is yours, including for commercial
use. Please don't share your key, copy or resell the app, or try to get around the licence check. If
you change computers, ask and your key can usually be moved. CapMux comes as is: it is made with
care, but no software is perfect, so keep your own copies of your work. CapMux also contains
open-source components under their own licences, listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md.
1. Parties and acceptance
This agreement is between the owner and developer of CapMux (the "Owner") and you, the person or company that obtained a CapMux licence (the "User"). By installing or using CapMux you accept it. If you do not accept it, do not use CapMux.
2. Licence grant
On payment of the agreed fee, the Owner grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use CapMux on one computer (the "Licensed Device") to which your licence key is bound, for the period stated in the key (one or more months, or lifetime). You may make backup copies of the installation files for your own use on the Licensed Device. Without a valid key CapMux runs with exporting disabled; there is no trial licence.
3. Your work
Captions, subtitle files, transcripts, projects and videos you create or export with CapMux ("Your
Outputs") belong to you (subject to the rights of others in the media you process). You may use Your
Outputs for any purpose, including commercial use, also after your licence ends. The fonts bundled with
CapMux are open-licensed and may be used in Your Outputs (see THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md).
4. Restrictions
Except where the law or a third-party licence listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md expressly allows it,
you may not:
- share, publish, sell or lend your licence key, or use one key on more than one computer;
- copy, distribute, rent, sublicense or resell CapMux or any part of it;
- reverse engineer, decompile or modify CapMux, or remove, disable or circumvent the licence check, its time checks, or any notices;
- use CapMux to provide a service that lets others use CapMux itself.
Source code. The CapMux source code (its private repository, including the Python, JavaScript and build files) is confidential and proprietary. Access to it does not grant any licence beyond this agreement; it may not be copied, disclosed or used to make other products without the Owner's written permission.
5. Moving to a new computer
Keys are bound to one computer. If you replace or reinstall your computer, contact the Owner: a key for the new computer may be issued for the rest of your period, at the Owner's discretion, and the old key then stops being valid for use.
6. Updates and support
The Owner may publish updates and fixes when available, without any obligation to do so or to keep a particular feature. Updates are covered by this agreement unless they come with different terms. Support is given by email or phone on a reasonable-effort basis.
7. Network use
CapMux processes your media on your computer. It connects to the internet to check for updates, to read the current time for the licence check, to send the anonymous usage statistics described below, and on first use to download its speech engine and speech models from their public sources (Python Package Index, PyTorch, Hugging Face). Your media is not uploaded.
Usage statistics
CapMux counts how much it is used, never who uses it. On each computer it adds up, per calendar day
(UTC): app launches; whether this was the first launch of a new installation, or of a new version
(with the version updated from); transcriptions, their audio minutes, speech language and model;
caption-file, video and new-sentence exports with the export kind (network or custom, hardware
encoding on or off, caption template, caption-file mode); whether a few features were used (key
words, speakers, a separate voice recording, frame snapping, jat normalisation, a dictionary,
automatic language, captions with a new sentence); and failed transcriptions and exports. Once the
day is over it sends that day's counts once, with the app version, the platform (macOS or Windows),
whether a licence is active and the interface language, to capmux.app, where they are only added
to daily totals. To recognise a new installation or version, CapMux keeps the version it last
started in its data folder (a version number, not an identifier); a reinstall that keeps the data
folder is therefore not counted as a new installation.
Never sent: any identifier (no install, user, computer, machine or licence ID or key), your name, file names, paths, text, audio, video or anything else from your projects, and no time finer than the day. The site derives the country from the connection a report arrives on and keeps it only as a count in the daily totals; it does not store IP addresses or individual reports. The site also counts downloads of CapMux per day, version, platform and country, from Cloudflare's traffic totals.
Usage statistics are on by default. Switch them off with the ⚙ button: Send anonymous usage statistics. Switching off stops sending and deletes the counts not sent yet; What is sent? there shows the exact reports waiting to be sent. Unsent days are kept for at most 30 days.
8. No warranty
CapMux is provided "as is". Speech recognition and timing are automatic and can be wrong; check your captions before publishing. To the extent permitted by law, the Owner gives no warranty that CapMux is error-free, uninterrupted or fit for a particular purpose.
9. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, the Owner is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, lost profits, or lost or damaged data, and the Owner's total liability is limited to the amount you paid for your licence in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in this agreement limits liability for intent or gross negligence, or any right you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract.
10. Termination
This licence ends automatically at the end of the licensed period, or if you materially breach this agreement. On termination you must stop using CapMux for exporting (it will stop exporting by itself); sections 3, 4 and 8–11 continue to apply. Your Outputs remain yours.
11. Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the Republic of Serbia. The courts in Belgrade have jurisdiction, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where a consumer lives.
12. Third-party components
CapMux includes and downloads open-source software, fonts and models that are licensed to you by their
authors under their own licences, listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md. Nothing in this agreement
limits your rights under those licences; in particular, you may replace the bundled ffmpeg/ffprobe
programs and LGPL libraries with modified versions and reverse engineer as needed to debug such
modifications.
